Bloomingdale’s 59th Street
New York, NY
Buch worked with Bloomingdale’s on an 8-floor, 359,000 SF phased renovation of the 59th Street Bloomingdale’s Flagship Store. The multi-year project was completed in multiple coordinated phases to minimize store disruption. The Midtown Manhattan building is comprised of 10 separate buildings that have been consolidated through the years, including sections that were built in the late 1800s. The project required several exterior upgrades including a new façade on the 60th Street side of the building, which involved converting an old loading dock into a glass storefront, complete with a revolving door and staircase. Logistics for this work were complicated by a row of historical townhouses that have been incorporated into the building footprint. Additional highlights included Studio 59, a high-end bar/restaurant on the second floor, along with an acoustically-engineered studio for photo and video production.
As a part of this renovation, Buch worked to build out over 123 unique vendor shops within the Bloomingdale space. Each was treated as a separate project, each with brand specific requirements, that had to be coordinated within the full phased renovation.
