AstraZeneca Laboratory
Gaithersburg, MD
Buch supports the Facilities Engineering department with a wide range of technical projects in AstraZeneca’s lab, pilot plant, vivarium, small scale manufacturing, and large scale manufacturing spaces. As science and space requirements evolve Buch supports the site in building out new laboratories and renovating existing laboratories, replacing AHUs and fume hoods, renovating labs during full or partial shutdown periods, replacing entire roofs, installing new WFI and RODI systems, and installing robots and other lab equipment, among other things.
To support the expanding capabilities at the site the Buch team performed the ADC (antibody drug conjugates) Lab expansion project which more than doubled the size of AstraZeneca’s existing ADC space and reorganized the layout for maximized efficiency. The key requirement and challenge of the project was keeping the existing lab running uninterrupted for all but a single 2-week shut down when the new exhaust systems were tied into the existing exhaust systems and existing operations were relocated into the newly expanded space. We then renovated the old lab. The lab renovation/expansion included a fully welded stainless steel exhaust duct system, 12 flow hoods, a self-contained vacuum system, lab gases, casework, and airlocks.
“I have spent years working on projects and traveling all over parts of this region and along those projects I have had the opportunity to meet and work alongside project managers, general contractors, and site superintendents. Overall, without a doubt, the Buch team, top to bottom was the most enjoyable to work with.”
