Leidos Generator at Fort Detrick
Frederick, MD
Buch performed a major utility upgrade to Building 535 for Leidos’ research facility on the Fort Detrick Army Base in Frederick, MD. The project included installation of a new 1.25MW diesel generator with concrete foundation in the parking lot nearby. Approximately 175 LF of underground electrical duct bank was installed under the road and up to the utility tie-in. At the tie-in point, the old 5kV switchgear was demolished and redundant utility connections were removed to make way for new 5kV gear and emergency power transfer switches. In order to keep the building operational during the project, temporary generators were connected downstream from the switchgear to provide power 24/7 to the entire building for about a month between disconnecting and reinstalling the permanent utility connections.
“I have spent years working on projects and traveling all over parts of this region and along those projects I have had the opportunity to meet and work alongside project managers, general contractors, and site superintendents. Overall, without a doubt, the Buch team, top to bottom was the most enjoyable to work with.”
