Wegmans Wisconsin Ave
Washington, DC
The highly anticipated Wegmans grocery store on Wisconsin Ave is its first-ever location in Washington, D.C. It provides a convenient shopping destination and gathering space for the surrounding communities. The 84,000 SF store includes various specialty departments including a bakery, coffee bar, wine, liquor & beer section, floral section and various in-store dining options.
The grocery store is part of the ultra-modern City Ridge development and is situated underneath the historic former Fannie Mae Headquarters Building. Due to the tight logistics, this project required BIM modeling to coordinate the elaborate MEP systems for the space. Since the project comprised of LEED-certified standards, energy-saving initiatives were introduced. These include the partially subsurface construction and the use of heat reclaim which reduces energy demand and provides a “head start” for the HVAC heating system.
Wegmans representatives, the developer, the Buch team and members of the community were in constant communication to ensure that this project would have a positive impact in the area. Buch was able to deliver a successful project by working closely with all stakeholders involved throughout the entire construction process.
